HISTORY OF THE HOUSE

There was an inn on the site of our house in German times for over a hundred years. It was one of the largest and oldest buildings in the village. It was built in the 17th century and existed for over 200 years!

Between 1945 and 1990, the building was called the common room because it served all the inhabitants of the village. It was here that dance parties and weddings were held, accompanied in the first post-war years by the Wolimier orchestra. It was also the venue for meetings of the thriving Village Women’s Circle and Volunteer Fire Brigade, as well as for village meetings. In the 1960s, the inhabitants could watch the best films of Polish cinema thanks to the frequent presence of a travelling cinema. In 1962, they watched the first colour film “Krzyżacy”. In the 1970s, the “Ruch” Book and Press Club was active here and organised the cultural life of the village.

The former inn housed a library and a reading room. Young and older residents of Wolimierz and the surrounding area took part in a variety of day-care activities. Courses, lectures, meetings with interesting people, dance parties for adults, dances for schoolchildren – this is the long history of the Wolimierz community centre. After martial law, in the second half of the 1980s, there was a decline in its activities and the end of village activities.

In 1991, the Klinika Lalek Theatre from Wrocław moved in to Wolimierz. This started a magical transformation of our village, which continues to this day. The theatre’s artists lived and staged their performances with us, in the former common room, or Szajba.

The inn unfortunately burned down in 1998. The Puppet Clinic, after a little wandering, found their haven at the Wolimierz Station, where they are to this day. The burnt down inn deteriorated for several years. On its foundations our house was built, the construction finished in 2007. Initially, our agritourism was called Huskyfarm, as the former owners bred Husky dogs and also took part in dog sled races for which they won numerous awards.

Since 2021, our house has been called DoWoli and we are trying to breathe a new good spirit into it. Woli is the colloquial name of our village in the conversations of the Woli people. We want our guests to experience DoWoli with us for relaxation or fun, depending on what they need at the time.

We think that the history of the former inn, then the community centre full of fun and culture, the artistic activities of the Puppet Clinic, and finally the agro-tourism full of people and animals, are all perfectly in keeping with the spirit of DoWoli 🙂
